UCFD#1 Obtains New Firefighting Dozer for Summer Season

UCFD#1 is incredibly grateful to local businessman Luke Dynes for generously loaning a Cat D5 dozer to our fire district for the summer. This is a major upgrade that will significantly boost our firefighting capabilities during peak fire season!

Dozers play a crucial role in wildland firefighting operations, creating firebreaks, clearing vegetation, and creating access routes to fight fires. Our current dozer was acquired through the Federal Excess Personal Property (FEPP) Program, which provides equipment to the district at no cost but remains under the ownership of the state of Oregon. While we’re thankful for that resource, Luke’s loan of the D5 gives us access to a more modern, efficient, and safer machine that’s ready to meet today’s challenges.

The D5 dozer is over 20 years newer than our current FEPP dozer and offers several key advantages:

Climate-controlled cab – improving operator safety, reducing noise, and increasing comfort during long hours on the fire line

Enhanced operator safety – better visibility, protection, and ergonomics

More fuel efficient than our larger D7 – helping reduce operating costs

6-way blade – offering superior maneuverability and precision

More nimble and faster than the D7

Lighter weight – making it easier and quicker to transport

This resource is used about a dozen times a year in our area and is vital for fire response in locations where our typical fire engines cannot effectively reach. And rest assured—we still have our D7 dozer available and ready for use should we need it.

We truly cannot thank Luke enough for his incredible donation and partnership with the District. Only with community support can we fulfill our mission and continue to serve these great communities.

Thank you, Luke!
