Diesl Tank Fire Destroys Shed

On June 5th at 4:06PM, UCFD#1 was dispatched to reports of a fire in the area of Bensel Road in Hermiston.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a semi-tank trailer on fire with leaking diesel fuel. HazMat Regional Team 10 arrived on scene to closely monitor the spill. At-risk residents in the surrounding area were notified and evacuated by the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office.

Mutual Aid from several surrounding districts was also dispatched to help UCFD#1 battle the blaze. Thank you to Boardman Fire Rescue District, Echo Fire Department, Irrigon Fire Department, and Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District for their assistance on scene.

Chemical totes, a semi-tank trailer, and a shop building were damaged in the fire. One firefighter was treated on scene for heat-related injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of this fire was determined to be burning in a burn barrel that spread to nearby combustible materials. Please remember that a burn ban is in effect from June 1st-October 1st within the District's service area!
