Brush Fire Quickly Contained Near Airport Road
On Sunday, June 15th at approximately 10:30 AM, Umatilla County Fire District #1 (UCFD1) crews were dispatched to the area of Airport Road following a report of a brush fire. The reporting party advised dispatchers of hearing a loud boom, observing flames, and witnessing a fast-moving fire advancing towards a nearby property.

Upon arrival, UCFD1 crews encountered active fire with several recreational vehicles, trailers, and a residential structure threatened. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack to knock down the advancing flames while simultaneously establishing structure protection operations to safeguard the nearby home. All occupants of the residence had safely evacuated prior to fire department arrival and no injuries were reported.
The fire was estimated to have burned approximately three acres before being contained. While the fire resulted in damage to multiple recreational vehicles and at least one trailer, firefighters were successful in preventing fire extension to the home, which remains unharmed.
Fire investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the incident.
UCFD1 was assisted on scene by Echo Fire Department Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District, Umatilla Electric Cooperative, Cascade Natural Gas, and the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office. UCFD1 would like to thank all partnering agencies for their assistance in the coordinated response
